The theory of path dependence is attracting increasing attention. A considerable number of scholars have been using the theory for the study of historical imprints, escalating dynamics and organizational inertia in different fields and on different levels. The conference is organized by the Path Dependence Research Centre (Pfadkolleg) of the Freie Universität Berlin. It aims at providing a platform for the discussion of most recent path-related research. The discussions are expected to focus on issues of extending path theory as well as studies of path-dependent phenomena. Conceptual as well as empirical papers from different fields are welcome: organization theory, organizational behaviour, strategic management, human resource management, industrial relations, marketing, innovation and entrepreneurship. Apart from the field of business studies, the organizers encourage contributions from related disciplines, such as economics, geography, sociology, or business history.
Format
This will be an intensive two-day conference with concluding panels and outstanding key-note speakers. A maximum of 50 participants will be selected to guarantee a workshop atmosphere. The sessions combine paper presentations and discussions including interactive elements. The conference will take place at the Seminaris campus hotel. Reasonably priced accommodation will be available; there will be no conference fee. The organizers invite you to submit a paper by October 15, 2013. Please email your submission to pfadkolleg@wiwiss.fu-berlin.de. Proposals must be attached in rich text (rtf) or portable document format (pdf) and should include:
  • • a full paper of a maximum 9,000 words, including a 200-word abstract
  • • a separate sheet with contact information, including affiliation, e-mail, telephone, fax, and postal address of the author(s).

The growing internationalisation of markets, the relaxation of constraints on capital flows between countries and the creation of different economic unions initiated the flow of capital, goods and services across national borders, growth and diffusion of shareholding, as well as increasing merger activity among the world’s largest stock exchanges. These changes have created interest in understanding the merits of new developments in accounting, auditing, corporate governance and management to a new qualitative level.

In spite of the importance of research on the merits of new developments in accounting, auditing, corporate governance and management, not many studies take a holistic approach to these issues. It is the aim of this special issue to fill a vacant niche for something that combines a variety of different aspects related to new developments in all of these business disciplines associated with globalisation.

The issue deliberately encourages a broad view of the origins and development of business, accounting and management with an emphasis on their functions in an increasingly interdependent global economy, and welcomes manuscripts that explain current international business practices, with related theoretical justifications, and identify the criticisms of current practices.

Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. (N.B. Conference papers may only be submitted if the paper was not originally copyrighted and if it has been completely re-written).

All papers are refereed through a peer review process. A guide for authors, sample copies and other relevant information for submitting papers are available on the Author Guidelines page.

 In addition to the double-blind peer review evaluation, submitted articles will also be evaluated in terms of contribution-to-length ratio. Articles making strong contributions should be about 10,000 words; those making narrower contributions no more than 5,000 words. Manuscripts considerably longer than the lengths identified in these guidelines will be returned immediately without review.

Emerging scholars are especially encouraged to submit their work (identify the submission as Young Scholars Track).

Conference Theme: Exploring the Importance of University-Industry Interactions in the Context of Contemporary Innovation Systems

The significance of the role universities play in the development of knowledge economy is widely acknowledged in both developed and developing countries. Following the footpath of the two Bristol Conferences in 2008 and 2011, the third international COSINUS conference will take place in Oran (Algeria) in December, 2013. This conference will cover a wide range of topics around the issue of university-industry interactions with a greater focus placed on the new role of universities in the development of knowledge and innovation systems underpinning development at national and regional levels. This Conference will provide a forum for academics, university/college management personnel, industry practitioners, planners, policy makers and other key stakeholders to discuss issues relating to best practice in knowledge exchange and knowledge sharing, and strategies for deepening and broadening university-industry interactions.

    REFERENCES

    References to other publications must be in Harvard style and carefully checked for completeness, accuracy and consistency. All references listed must be cited in the text, and all text citations must have a reference listed. The in-text citation (usually in parentheses) should appear with authors’ last names and the publication date. List references separately at the end of the text (following notes), in alphabetical order.

Proposals are invited that address social sciences issues through one of the following categories:

Theme 1:  Social and Community Studies               Theme 5:  Environmental Studies
Theme 2:  Civic and Political Studies               Theme 6:  Organizational Studies
Theme 3:  Cultural Studies               Theme 7:  Educational Studies
Theme 4:  Global Studies               Theme 8:  Communications

If you are unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations include the option to submit a video presentation, and/or submission to one of the journals for peer review and possible publication, as well as subscriber access to the Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Journals.

The current deadline for proposal submission (title and short abstract) is 11 June 2013*. Please visit our website at the link below for more information on submitting your proposal, future deadlines, and registering for the conference.

Proposals are also being accepted for the 2013 Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Conference being held in Prague, Czech Republic from 30 July – 1 August.  The proposal deadline for the 2013 meeting for in-person registrations is 11 June 2013. Virtual presentations may be submitted until 30 July.
*Proposals are reviewed in rounds adhering to monthly rolling deadlines. Check the website often to see the current review round.


 

Vancouver & The Social Sciences Conference

The 2012 Social Sciences Conference was hosted by the Universidad Abat Oliba in Barcelona Spain and attended by 380 scholars from 46 countries whose interests and studies spanned across a wide breadth of research areas and practices.
